Picture Living The High Life

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

I just read about a raffle in Orange County, California today that seemed to be pretty idyllic.  Of course, we all know the Orange County, CA is a very nice part of the country to live it.  It is where Laguna Beach is located, for those of you who have seen the popular MTV show.  This may attribute to the reason why the raffle prize was so amazing.

Basically, the raffle was to benefit Irvine Unified School District programs in CA and offered an amazing travel opportunity to six of the most nice resorts in Orange County.  All of the resorts were coastal resorts and they include the Montage Laguna Beach, The Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel, The Balboa Bay Club, the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa, the Surf & Sand Resort, Laguna Cliffs Resort and Spa and the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort.  The prize included a night, spa treatment, and dinner at each of these resorts.  That sounds like the high life to me.

This prize is just one of the many that they have been raffling off throughout the summer.  The other prizes include a BMW, $700,000 condo, and $500,000 cash.  I bet those raffle tickets sell like wildfire.  This raffle greatly benefits their school district because they just suffered a twenty million dollar cutback from the government.  More school districts should hold raffles like this to improve their schools.

Millionaire Raffle

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

I just recently heard of Pennsylvania Lottery’s Millionaire Raffle.  This year was the tenth year in a row that they have held this raffle, and they just made four new people millionaires!  They had a total of $5,089,200 in cash prizes, so there were other cash prizes as well.  I believe that other than the other million dollar prizes that there were also a hundred thousand dollar prizes, a thousand dollar prizes, and hundred dollar prizes.  There is no better raffle prize than money, that’s for sure.

As far as I know or have heard of, Pennsylvania is the only state that holds a raffle like this.  All of their proceeds go to funding programs that benefit older residents of the state.  That is amazing.  I love that all of that money goes to a great cause that feeds back into bettering their state.  This is a fad that should definitely catch on around the country.

Can you imagine if every state in the United States held a raffle like this?  It would not only involve communities in their state’s welfare, but the money given as prizes would better other people’s lives as well.  It is such a progressive and productive idea.  I would definitely spend money on buying  raffle ticket that supports our state.  Now if only I can get them to buy my raffle tickets :) .

Cash-Calendar Raffle

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen Chick-fil-a do this, but maybe not to its full extent.  I think that this is a great raffle idea for any restaurant or business.  It gives the customer immediate gratification of getting a deal, and then the hope that they may get something even better.  These are easily sold for that very reason.

If you are unaware of what a cash-calendar raffle is, allow me to enlighten you.  Your business makes a calendar with whatever kind of them you want it to have.  Inside the calendar you include coupons for your business.  Every calendar is considered a raffle ticket, and when a customer buys one they are entered in a raffle for an even bigger prize.

What’s cool about this raffle is that the “bigger prize” doesn’t have to be that big.  This is good because you will have to put forth some money to make the calendars.  Most people love participating in this kind of raffle because not only do they love getting a quirky calendar, but they love the coupons inside of it even more.  The fact that they are entered in a raffle for buying something that they would have bought anyway is just an added bonus.  Think about doing this kind of raffle, because it is a great one.

What is a 50/50 Raffle?

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

I was at a basketball game the other night and an idea suddenly hit me.  When you live in a community and have children, one of the things you do most often is go to the local basketball or football games.  My husband and I don’t have kids, but we still go to the local games just to get to know people in our community.  I noticed a raffle going on, that has been going on for a while, that is the most simple form of a raffle I’ve ever seen.

It’s called a 50/50 raffle.  All you have to do is have people pay a certain amount to enter into a contest, and if they win the contest they gift half of the proceeds made from selling spots to enter the contest.  You still achieve the goal of raising money, and the “prize” that the participants win is straight up cash.  What person doesn’t like to win cash?!

What’s cool about this raffle is that it can be on a big or large scale and the contest can be whatever you want it to be.  If you have this raffle on a large scale, it’s important to hand out raffle tickets so that people who haven’t paid to participate don’t just get in line for it.  As I mentioned before, I saw this raffle going on at the local basketball game.  The contest was to make a half-court shot.  A 8 year old kid won, can you believe it?!
